I'm a researcher of the Urban Planning and Development Lab at Yonsei University, where I'm working towards my PhD in Urban Planning and Engineering.

 

Throughout my studies and work experience, I've gained a global perspective on my true passion to make sustainable communities a reality. I began my studies in Mexico, I got a degree in Architecture and got a taste of what it's like to design and build for a specific culture. I then completed a double major in Management in the United States, which gave me a solid foundation in business principles that have proven to be invaluable in my work as a construction assistant, smart city consultant and as a researcher.

In addition to my formal education, I've also gained practical experience in Mexico as a volunteer firefighter. Not only did I learn about building regulations and hazard control, but I also had the chance to make a positive impact on my community. As one of the most meaningful experiences of my career so far, my favorite activity during that year was visiting hospitals and schools to bring cheer to kids in remote areas.  Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the human element of urban planning and development and saw firsthand the impact that infrastructure can have on communities. This experience has stayed with me and will continue to shape my approach in the projects I take part in.

After my graduation, I pursued a master's degree in Convergence Engineering for Future Cities in Korea, where I was part of the Advanced Convergence Construction Technology Group and I had the opportunity to present my research at a conference and intern with relevant companies in the construction industry. This experience allowed me to delve into the intersection of technology and construction and gave me a whole new set of skills and knowledge.

 

Since I am curious by nature, I decided to volunteer again in the retrofitting and construction sector in Portugal. This experience was one of the highlights of my life. It taught me the simplicity of a routine, from becoming a regular at the empanada stall to appreciating a good book for the long daily commute. During that summer, I worked alongside locals to renovate a home in the outskirts of Porto and had the opportunity to practice my Portuguese as the only foreigner on the project. It was a truly rewarding experience to see the person who was living there in tears of joy upon finally having a home again. It was a really rewarding experience and gave me a new appreciation for the hard work that goes into building projects.

All in all, my studies and work experience have given me a diverse set of skills, including design, project management, research, and technical expertise. I feel confident that these skills will serve me well as I continue to pursue a career in this exciting field.
